苏静 – SU JING

The Quiet Awakening

Between two cultures, two rhythms, two ways of perceiving the world, the Chinese artist Su Jing builds a body of work that is silent yet resolute, where awakening does not emerge through rupture, but through the quiet persistence of the gaze.

Her work seeks a subtle balance between tradition and contemporaneity. It draws equally from the deep heritage of Chinese painting and the sensitive influence of her daily life in France.

Su Jing explores multiple mediums, including painting, performance, and documentary, within a suspended dialogue where each movement seems to arise from an inner necessity.

In her pictorial works, the artist uses pigments derived from classical Chinese painting, applied to rice paper while deliberately moving away from academic conventions. She preserves neither formal rigor nor fixed symbolism, but rather a diffuse, almost unconscious memory that moves through the material and accompanies the gesture.

Her canvases are inhabited by a recurring figure: a red-eyed bird, both clumsy and childlike. Far from being a fixed symbol, it becomes the vehicle of a free and daring visual language, a fragile alter ego that allows the unexpected to emerge. By revisiting this traditional motif, Su Jing rejects formal constraints in favor of an intuitive and spontaneous approach. The line asserts itself and color blossoms, giving rise to a dreamlike universe populated with flowers, shapes and light, like a wondrous garden suspended in time.
